If I Were God
by Paul Starkie
The choices made by Adam and Eve
would not affect everyone else
Causing all from The Garden to leave
That is, if I were God
Yes, each person could their own life live
in perfect utopia alone or with friends
To act as they please without penance to give
That is, if I were God
For there would not be anyone on earth who had sinned
because those would swiftly receive their just reward
And immediately their life on this earth would end
That is, if I were God
Those would go ahead then and begin to dwell
apart from the flawless still walking with God
And begin their sentence of eternity in Hell
That is, if I were God
And those who lived a perfect life
would be allowed to live forever without want
Still in The Garden without any strife
That is, if I were God
That way there would be no need for grace
and God’s Son need not be tormented, ridiculed, and scorned
For some sorry sinner who’d just spit in his face
That is, if I were God
With only all these perfect people around
this world would truly be perfect I think
And God’s creations would flourish abound
That is, if I were God
That way righteous people could daily see God’s face
but the sinful nature of this horrid creature called man
Would make Heaven and earth one big lonely place
That is, if I were God
