KATRINA
Weakened and almost forgotten Katrina was her name
Then growing to be remembered to Florida she came
Considered weak she still brought considerable pain
As she widened and hit Florida with vast and torrential rain
Crossing the peninsula she managed to survive
Then in the Gulf of Mexico she began to thrive
Heading toward a large population
Destined to bring massive devastation
She strengthened to five with an immense form
She will be known as the mother of all storms
The people of New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Mobile
Began to leave with The Devil’s Daughter nipping at their heels
Katrina left behind her a tattered and beaten Gulf Coast
She can declare her magnificence should she decide to boast
As rescue crews prepared for duty to report
Their urgent efforts they were forced to abort
Katrina brought winds, tides, and driving rain
But the next day brought the most decisive pain
As the damaged walls broke in the levee
A nation’s heart became burdened and heavy
Then as expected came soaring in on an Eagle’s wings
From a heart of gold came food, water, blankets and things
New meaning was given to the Texas two step
While some tried to say the government is inept
But as the dust settles and the waters recede
We discover once again America is great in deed
In the coming years we will find New Orleans
Will once more be a city of abounding means
