NEIGHBORS
By Paul Starkie
Neighbors come and sometimes they go
Mostly they are someone you vaguely know
They stay in their own yard
And getting close is very hard
They try not to be too much of a bother
So you and they mix not one with the other
These two families then stay apart
And there is no bonding of the heart
This action allows for protection
Should one move on in a new direction
To me this seems so heartless and cold
And was not the order in days of old
In different times which seem now so long past
Neighbors grew friendships that would forever last
In those times when one neighbor moved away
He knew in the other’s heart he would always stay
I’m so glad you are from the old neighbor school
Though modern day neighbors may call you a fool
Your kind of neighbor is always there
To let your actions say that you care
As I look back through the years
I see you never caused us any tears
And I believe God did us a great favor
By giving us you to be our neighbor
